Table Saw Tenoning Jig

Project by JoeinDE posted 186 days ago 775 views 2 times favorited 7 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I saw plans for this jig at one of the project plans sites, but I figured I would try and build it without that plans (it looked relatively straightforward). I had attempted to make a tenoning jig previously that would ride on the rip fence, but that one wouldn’t stay true to the table (poor design on my part). This one rides in the right side miter slot. It one ended up needing a small shim underneath to be completely true. The notches are cut out of the triangular support piece so that I could clamp it during glue-up. The structure is MDF and maple (not visible – it’s below the MDF) with a poplar and a pine scrap. The bolt and knob both came from Rockler.

I am going to put this jig to the test by making my first mortise and tenon table as my next project.

Very nice. I was trying to figure out how to get the small amount of slop out of my tenoning jig. It rides on the rip fence. I was planning to build a beefier saddle to sit on the fence in hopes that would solve the problem. Your jig looks easier to build and more accurate, so I think I’ll try to build one of my own.

looks good , only coment is maybe have a replasable back stop so you can eliminate tearout and tenon size changes

Thanks for the comments. I was intending the backstop to be replaceable – just unscrew it and add another, but I could use a clamped sacrificial backstop that would be much more easily replaced.

Simple, cheap, adjustable & easy to repair if needed. What’s not to like? Great job there Joe!

Looks like you have the same rails and rip fence that I do. I’m not happy with my fence riding tenoning jig either. The miter slot design you have should be far less fussy.
