Finally got a lathe! yay
this is the first plate I have turned on it
190mm across (about 7 1/2 inches), turned from silky oak

Nice turning for a first. Don’t be afraid to take it a little thinner. Maybye get a gauge. Lets you know you much wood you have without taking it off and looking. You’ll learn as you go along. But you did very well for a start. My first sure didn’t look that good. lol.

Great first piece, you will go thinner as you get better but a good friend of mine Allen Battey told me once “Turn one thin to show them you can then turn the rest the way you want.”

thanks for your comments everyone,
the picture makes it look a bit thicker than it actually is but i will try a thinner one next time
i like the timber but it makes me sneeze
gotta get a respirator :)
