Project Information
Finally, the chair is done, and this completes the study desk unit now.
The chair is inspired by the Nakashima's "CONOID CHAIR", I liked the design, so I wanted to try this.
I used 2 rustic cherry logs for the legs, and that was the biggest point, made it so difficult, but at the same time, made this chair different from the original. (It's so different in many ways anyway, though)
And one more thing very special about this chair was the width, I have only 36cm (14inches) space to put this chair in the desk space.
The seat, the feet, and the top of the back are white ash, all the dowels are beech.
For the foot rest, (the one just like a box) sides are pine, the top is beech. He only need this for a few years, and after that he can use this as a box, too.
If I ever try this CONOID CHAIR once again, I will definitely use straight and thicker lumber for the legs. I needed to add the support legs because the log was too thin/slender, the joints went OK, but the legs it-selves bended when I sit there.
After all, this was a very challenging and very interesting project, and I really enjoyed it very much.
And the most importantly, my son is very happy that this unit is all done now.
