My daughter is two now and my second is on the way, so it was time for her to move into a “big girl” bed and make way for the little sister in the crib. I built this out of some pine I had sawn about a year ago and I was really happy with the result. The headboard and footboard are beadboard, but everything else is the pine. I painted it all with 2 coats of primer and 4 coats of enamel, all sprayed on. The drawers are 10” deep and are made form a single board. They are finished with a coat of shellac, two coats of gel stain and six coats of wiping varnish. I used Blum full extension undermount glides and cast stainless pulls. the side rails come off to convert into a regular twin bed. Luckily my daughter slept the entire night in the bed without complaint!

Hey Patrick
This is one fine bed with great details for a lucky daughter from a good dad.

Great bed. I really like the design of the bed overall and I really like the rails, especially with two on each side. It looks well built. It also looks like you put a very good amount of time in on the finish and it pays off.

Patrick, This bed is awesome. Nice work. I was in the same situation and built my daughter’s bed. You can see it on my projects list. Very similar, but you went much further in your design. I love the drawers and the side rails. I hope your daughter loves it as much as mine did.

Truly amazing… What brand of paint did you use for the finish?

Josh –
I used a satin enamel topcoat by Valspar and the primer was Kilz 2. I don’t have any plans other than my random scribblings on the marker board in my shop. If you need some specific dimensions I’ll be happy to measure it up and send them to you.

How much would a bed like this cost?
