Related to the “Clamp Rack – Build or Buy” forum thread…
The attached photos are suggestions for folks with limited time to save a bunch of money on a rolling clamp rack, without expending much time. This one is ~ 6 feet tall, sitting on a 20×36 base. None of the dimensions are at all critical.
I built this thing in one session, of about 1 – 1-1/2 hours. The materials were ultra cheap, 2x, sheathing plywood, deck screws, a few carriage bolts, nails, and some Grizzly wheels. The clamp supports themselves can be unscrewed and changed as the collection evolves. using 8 foot 2x’s yielded cutoffs that became crossbars.
- The base is a simple box, made from 2×6 sides and 2×4 ends, attached to plywood. The base supports the a-frame, and provides easy wheel mounting. I keep weights, band clamps, cauls, pads, etc… in the base.
- The uprights are basic ladders attached at the top with plywood gussets. These attach inside the base with carriage bolts.
Nest the clamps on the crossbars, no special fixtures are required. The whole idea came from the Bessey display at my local tool pusher.

Clamp rack is OK , well done. But the clamps , so many clamps.
I understand there can not be to many clamps but here I see almost enough clamps .
Thanks for sharing with us.

Barry, This is a nice clamp rack. I have one of these on my list as well and this certainly is an inspiration. And I like the price as well. :)

Good design and cheap….but….when you build boats…......you never have enough clamps.

Nice Barry. I made one a few years back and in hindsigt I would have notched the hangers for the clamp heads.
I still might do this today.
The clamps have a tendency to come off the truck whn I ammoving moving it.

Looks good. Can you post a picture of the whole rack in one photo?
Thanks for posting the project.

tmiller,
I’d be happy to do that, but I probably won’t get the chance ‘till this weekend.
