This is an oven ‘safety’ stick I made for my wife, or anyone who uses our oven. I figure if I use a push stick on the table saw then she deserves a push-pull stick for a hot oven. The project has been kicking around my shop for at least a month while I got other things out of the way. I made it out of a strip of walnut sandwiched between two pine angle cut-offs (from that chair project). I designed it on the fly, but referenced many similar items here on LJ and elsewhere. It’s finished with spray lacquer.

Handy tool, Dave. Great use of cut offs, too! Thanks for sharing.

Very useful kitchen tool. Another way to save fingers from burns.

I hope to get a few projects out of those cut offs. I’ve got some strips of white oak to try and use too.

In hindsight, It would have been more clever if I had made the working end look like a bird head. She can always use another one.

Looks handy, I might make one and put a magnet on it.

A magnet would definitely be an added feature. Our oven front is all glass and the cabinets are all wood. Luckily the drawers for such utensils are right next to the stove.

Thanks for the views and comments, everyone. For some reason this simple project made the Daily Top 3! Must have been a slow day.

Or maybe it was a great project!

Looks like a very useful gadget—it’s always nice not to have burned fingers!

Perhaps, or maybe the secret was that I used the purple side of my daughter’s old princess blanket as the background in the beauty shot. You never know.

I got a hug and a kiss from my wife for this. Originally I was saving it for Christmas, but I’d feel bad if she or my daughter had gotten burned by the rack before then. Add in the DT3 and it’s been a good week.
