Granddaughter Claire (12) came to me with a sketch for a display shelf to hold her collection of 32 different nail polishes.
We made this from Red Oak for the frame and shelves, and some Birch plywood for the back.
No glue was used, just 18 gauge brads.
We finished it with Minwax Red Oak and 2 coats of Varathane gloss.
This cabinet can stand on a dresser or hang on the wall.

Oops! We did use some glue to make the subassembly process easier. Titebond III.

Quite attractive with all of the colors shown on the containers. Much better than hiding the containers in a drawer.

Looks very nice and I’m sure she loves it, But I’d also bet that in a few months you will wish you had made it bigger !

The best part about woodworking is being able to make things for the ones you love. Good job!

We had to modify the case to make it more stable. I added a 1 inch piece of oak to the base, made to extend about 3/4 inch all around. It is fastened to the underside with two screws, so it can be removed for wall hanging.

Well maybe a Few more Years , For 12 she has got enough to last a little while. :) My Grand Daughter is 14 now and still doesn’t have any (just users her Moms when and if she uses any at all) she is almost more Grand Son than Grand Daughter, but I am sure that will change , Then I will have to get a Shot Gun. :)

Have your say...
