This isn’t my first woodworking project by a long shot but it is the most recent fully completed project.

I guess that you could technically call this wood-burning but I’m not claiming any skill in that area! I used Adobe Illustrator to draw the art, used the Tilez font (free online) for the front, and engraved my sister’s information on the back.

I simply planed some nice sugar maple down to the height of standard Scrabble tiles, cut some end-grain slices, and then… put ‘em in my laser engraver! I ran the engraving at speed 100, power 15, at 600DPI.

The laser engraver works just like a printer! You put your material into the device and the hit “Print”! Great!

I hand sanded them prior to engraving and then finished with a couple of coats of clear seal-a-cell.

If you need an English professor, shoot her an e-mail!

If it were my sister, I’d have a knot on my head for putting her email online!
