Hello all, Started playing with wood about two years ago. Found this site shortly after. This place has been such a source of inspiration for me for many of my projects. That being said, I just want to send a big thank you to all the folks out there sharing their expertise, talent and ideas with fellow woodworking enthusiasts. So I wanted to share my most recent project I just completed. This is a very belated birthday gift that I promised to my mother. It’s all pallet wood thrown through my bench planer. Its miter cuts glued up with a few splines added for stability. First time adding splines. I think they came out okay. I’m not crazy about them though. They weren’t as tight as I would have liked. I made a jig out of some 2×4 on plywood. I should have added a picture of that too. Maybe later. The kerf at the corner (outer most point) was wider than the deepest point. I actually made some new slightly thicker splines then tapered them on my sander for a second to make a tighter fit. I know its not the proper way but it improved it. Maybe its my cheapish Avanti table saw blade??? Not sure how many tpi but it is on the finer side. Once again thanks everyone. Any critique/questions are welcomed.

Sorry for the sideways photos. They are normal on my cpu but when I upload them here they rotate. Not sure why.

Those corner splines added a ‘touch of class’ to the project. I like finding little things that are added that others typically skip over.

Beautiful birdbox, really like your choice of wood. Makes it very classy over the standard plywood or pine boxes.

Have your say...
