I made this scarlet macaw whirligig for a competition on YouTube,it is made from plywood and poplar wood and other pieces of junk from around my shop,I used pieces of walnut to make the areas for the wire that cause the macaw to move to seat in.I tried to paint it to look as life like as possible. It was a difficult build and very finicky to get it to work right, I had one complete failure before I got it right with this one!I used a mechanism type that i found while researching whirligigs on google,it looked liked the easiest way to make the bird fly but was very hard to get it set up right.I made a video of the whirligig moving I had to use a hair-dryer in my shop as the weather in Ireland is very bad at the moment! Please thumbs up,share and subscribe!

Cool!! Love the sound effects, too!

I made a “Flying Pig” once that used a Scotch Yoke to convert circular motion into vertical motion.

Beautiful bird and toy. In our country there is a tradition of making such wooden toys (check on Google : ’’wooden toys of Hrvatsko Zagorje’‘) with traditional colouring.
