Man, that purple really jumped out and grabbed me when I saw it on the homepage. They both look really nice and I like the hinges too. Are they hickory?

thanks guys
i hope they and the 2 other boxes in the shop get this much attention at the craft fair this weekend will be my first craft fair and i am nervous!
first on the hinges i have to thank jim for the inspiration i saw them on a box he made i don’t know if this is the correct way but is was easy for me.
what i did was plane some 1 1/2 wide by i think the piece was 18 inches long to 1/4 thick the set it up against the fence on 1 of my sleds (if i had any more sleds i would be santa) marked every 1/8 and cut out every other 1 then set it flat on the sled and riped them 3 tabs then 2 tabs i did need to file a little to get a good fit
then over to the drill press with 2 parts a top and a bottom together centered it on the fence and drilled
i think i will try a bog on this so i can add pictures as it was real easy i have 4 padauk hinges in the shop any took a hr. to make. the more i read this it is usless with out pictures i will take some and try my hand at a blog

Love the boxes. That Purpleheart realy jumpps out at you.
The hinges are great also. Have been doing my own lately and like you say….Not hard at all.
If you have a box joint jig, give that a try. It will make for perfect fit and you can use 2 or 3 or 5 etc pins on each side. How ever many you want.
Again, Gresat boxes.

scrappy that is basically what i am doing with the sled on the saw a box joint jig is all it is then just cut them to
size file or sand a radius on the top hinge for clearance and drill a thru hole still working on stuff for the craft fair this weekend will do the blog after that. did i mention this is my first
matt the make a pen for mothers day was not really a class they just had some pen 7 mil. kits with the wood already drilled and brass tubes installed she was shown what tool to use and she took off.
went in to but a combo. square wanked out with a lath and all the extras
good sales tactic
dale the hinges are hickory i am trying some out of paduak now will be done tonight not sure if this will work feels brittle

How did you make the wooden hinges? Did you use some kind of jig?
