The three boxes are about the same size: 8.5” wide, 4.5”, and 6” deep. The outer two are made of cherry, and the central one is of mahogany. The marquetry tops are of various types of veneer hide-glued onto mdf. The leaf motif on the central box is like the painted leaves on my cuban mahogany coffee table that I posted a while ago. The box bottoms are lined with suede leather. I made these boxes after attending a weekend course on marquetry taught by the artist/woodworker Paul Schurch, so they are my first effort with veneer and marquetry.

Excellent. I am jealous. A year ago I also attended one of those marquetry seminars (but in Virginia). I bought a nice set of Exacto knives, a sample baggy of veneers, and a video. I have yet to make my first ATTEMPT! Then I visited my 80 year old aunt and uncle. They showed me marquetry they do at their senior center. They assured me, they encouraged me, they inspired me. However, I am still unable to try to make my first marquetry project. So I am jealous that you did what I wish I could bring myself to do.
These boxes will make treasured gifts. Good work. Perhaps now I’m going to get off my duff and do it! Maybe.

Those boxes are gorgeous Don. The marquetry takes them to a whole new level. Will you be writing a marquetry blog?
