this is a basic box i made to look a litle more dressed up. with a checkerboard lid and box joints to give it some
character. it was made with honduras mahogany and maple. the lid was sawn from the carcase to give a clean draditional look. ill write more on it later but thats the basics

It looks great Mike. Great contrast in the wood.

Really nice work! Tell us more about the lining.

nice. I like how the checkerboard design copies the joinery look, the cutout of the bottom and especially the groove under the handle. NICE

Beautiful….I love the checkerboard top and the fact that it’s visible from the inside.

Mike – I really like your work – you add a new style to the making of a box.

Great box, Mike! It came up on the home page and I had to take a look… Big fan of the finger/box joints. Nice work with the top.

This is terrific, Mike. I still don’t know how I miss these beautiful small boxes when first posted. I do keep my eyes out for them. I really like the checkerboard top; I don’t believe that I’ve seen that done before on a box. The rounding over of the edges of the checkerboard are a great detail. When I look at this, it’s no wonder that I just love small wooden boxes.

This shuffled up for me and don’t know how I missed it earlier. Really beautiful box Mike. The design and craftsmanship are just outstanding. Glad I caught this gem.
