Project Information

We have couple of Grandkids for a few days and have to keep them busy so I thought a little time in the shop would be good to spend with them .
Here is a flower made from wood that MOMO my Granddaughter and I made today .
We started with shaping a block of white aspen to a leaves shape with the band saw and sander and then clamped it in the vise and took of shavings .

This way of doing it saved us cutting each leaf with scissors and also gave us a much nicer edge on the leaf .

Just a tray with heated fine sand on the burner

We followed this with some sand shading and gave some colour to the leaves .

Now a soaking in water to soften the leaves .

Now dry the leaves for a bit and start assembling using a piece of masking tape as a base and CA glue to glue each petal to the next .

Next we made a little round center piece to finish the flower using a small pull saw making some cross cuts and sanding it to shape and gluing it in place . To finish a couple coated of lacquer .

Fun little project and a happy little girl and some good time in the shop with her .

From the look in the picture, your gran daughter is happy with the results. The smile will be her thanks that will stay in your heart for a long time. This must be some of the best shop time ever Klaus. Can't wait to see what you make with your grand son.

Thanks Dave and you are absolutely right about that smile .
Tomorrows project is a little more involving but has to be done with speed as that boy is always in a hurry to see the finished project which is too bad and I always tell him good work takes good time .

Good luck tomorrow. Just make him believe you're going fast. I just became a grandpa 2 months ago today. Last week I carried my grandson to the shop to show him my helper, CHIPS. For some reason, he started to cry. haha. Looking forward to share time in the shop some day with him.

Very well done Klaus and time very well spent as well.
Good job on the shading too ….... so now that you've got the tough part of marquetry figured out …... when are you going to try the easy part? :)
