I built this for a friend of mine. She wanted a Train Structure for her daughter. It was my first outdoor project…but it was extra nice as I got PAID to build it. It is 15 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 5 feet tall. There is one picture before it was stained and painted. The coal car has a removable seat and a fold down table. It also has rear panel that is removable. Simply unscrew 2 t-turns and lift it off. The owner decided she wanted it closed in after I built so her your daughter would not fall out. I devised this method so she can remove it easily if she wants to do so. This train is the ‘HIT’ of her neighborhood. All the kids want to come play!

And, a lot of work with the wheels and all.

It is ACQ pressure treated lumber. It was a lot of work, but it was a FUN Project. I cut the wheels on my table saw, YES Circles. I learned how to do it on the internet. The larger wheels are two pieces of 2×12 lumber joined together and then cut. I used my router to cut out the interior wood, leaving the inner hub. Most of the interior clean out was done Free hand on slow. I really enjoyed this project. I have another person who wants me to me Pirate Ship structure for their son. It will a total of 16 feet high, 17 feet long, and 14 feet wide. It will have two levels with a sandbox. I will post pictures when it is complete. But, it will probably be the fall before it is done.

Well, it definitely got high marks from my 2 and 3 year old sons. They loved the pictures. So do I, but I’m glad they didn’t ask me to build them one. It looks like a lot of work.

Good job. I helped build one just like this about 5 years ago for our downtown revitilization committee. We raffled it off and a 75 year old gentleman won it. It now sits in front of the senior center for kids to play on. And play on they do. I like the paint job you did. Looks great.

Dale…it is a FUN project to build. You would love doing it. It was a lot of work, but I learned a lot and had fun doing something I have REALLY come to enjoy. WOODWORKING…

Randy, I believe it was fun. I may get around to something like this later in the summer. I’m about to post the project I made for my kids last summer. It’s just a small playhouse.

This is great. There must be a thousand ways to play with this as kids can make new ways to play always with their imagination.
And look at that huge garden or backyard!!! My house’s gonna be like a dog house there.

Awesome project, and very sweet design!
Their is company that sells pirate ship play sets in my town – not cheap, like $10,000.
