Project Information

My collection of fancy canes was being stored in a basket that was holding the cat toys. Fortunately the cats didn't rebel, as there were 20 some canes precariously stuck into the basket being held together by various stuffed animals and catnip toys. Snoopy and Mushroom Man barely had room to breathe and the Laughing Lady Bug wasn't amused. Not to mention the Panda hand puppet was being fingered out of place.

HEROIC HUSBAND comes to the rescue! After a few sketches and weekends of labor, my husband finally finished a cane stand that should have ample room for more of my creations, at least until I sell them all. There were so many pieces of fiddleback maple and black walnut that assembly was a bit tricky. The grid system is on 3 sides and also inside the bottom to hold the canes in place. Despite the wait, I think he did quite a nice job. He has earned many Bonus Points on this one.

The legs match the other pieces he designed, such as our dining table, TV table and coffee table. See: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/10567 & http://lumberjocks.com/projects/10551

I would like to have him make more versions of this in smaller dimensions. He's thinking of making 3, 6, and 8 sided versions too.

Comments and inquiries welcome. For more information on my work visit: http://www.bigstickcanes.com ; http://www.gallerymh.com .

An Arts and Crafts Egg Crate design. Tell him he did a great job.

The cane collection looks like it could stand to be thinned. Good Luck.

So, you think I need to thin out the canes some? I wonder if anyone will take them.

I did a health fair last week and had a dozen canes for display. I had several people ask me if I was giving any of my canes away. I guess they liked them.

Great stand, helps to spread them a little and see them. If you want to sell them, I would suppose the price would be the only determining factor. Any cane user or collector would love any of those canes! All are collectible and functional and beautiful and original and hand made by a rare being, the female craftswoman. They will be showing your work on the Antiques road show in the future, bringing a handsome price, I'd expect.

Actually, one of my clients does change his canes during the course of the day. At least he did before I made him his custom cane that I hope he uses more often then his others, as I made his handle specifically for his needs since he can not open his last two fingers without causing great pain.
