My wife and I like country primitive home designs. When we were first dating, I finished a shelf for her that we filled with things we liked. We’d always wanted a larger version of the shelf to display more things on, so I finally got off my butt and made a 6ft shelf to match our smaller one. I was happy with the way it turned out. It was not any great technical feat, but it matches the store bought shelf just fine. I had to scuff it up a bit and make some uneven edges on the shelf to add to that “rustic” flavor. The stain is just your basic dark walnut brushed on 2 coats and rough sanded. I would like to eventually build a table to match these, although I would like to have a smooth waxed finish. The last photo is of the original shelf I was trying to match.
