The Governor of our state presents a replica state seal to new or expanding businesses in Alabama. When we are not offering training on the laser we make the seals. We thought it would be fun to manufacture a curved case for him to carry into the presentation ceremony instead of a shipping box. He was so impressed his staff asked for two more cases as backups.
The case edge is made of 5/8” thick basswood and kerfs were sawed every inch about 9/16” deep. The top and bottom are 1/4” red oak veneered plywood. We used band clamps to form the edge in a circle and attached the plywood veneer with glue and a Porter Cable Pinner. The inside and outside faces of the case edge were veneered with matching red oak using contact cement. All the hardware came from Rockler including the flock material. The entire inside of the case was flocked in order to protect the state seal replica as it was carried in the case to a presentation.
In the last picture our director at ACAWT is holding the case while Governor Riley holds one of the replica seals. To date we have made over 75 replicas.

It is nice to see you posting again. It has been a little while since you have had the opportunity to put a project up for viewing.
