Bistro Style Tables For Outdoor Use

My wife saw some outdoor tables on a recent outing to a theme park. She said they were designed so a person could stand and eat at one. For some reason she thought we needed some for when we hold cook outs. I am all about sitting down when i eat but who am i to argue the point with her. The ones she had seen were mounted on a post set in the ground but I wasn’t willing to dig a bunch of holes in the yard so I told her I would see what I could come up with. After doing a little research, I learned that “bistro” tables are around 36” in height, so I used that as my standard. The bases are made out of pressure treated wood and the tops are 3/4” plywood. I used some home made edge banding and will paint them in colors of my wife’s choosing…lol. They will stored when not in use but I still plan to put a few coats of clear polyurethane on them to see if that will expand their usable life span. This was a fun project to design and build and we will see if they actually see any use.

First one is blue, so if she tells you she wants the next one orange, does that mean she’s a Gator fan??? :-)

Another fine job by BusterB! Great looking tables my friend. I like that edge banding. I must agree with you on the sitting down thing, but I guess that doesn’t mean we are right, different strokes….. I also like the blue paint job. I suppose I need to get out a project soon, you’re starting to make me look bad. Fine work buddy, keep it up.

( we will see if they actually get any use ) Well, I know where you’re coming from. Remember they know more than us and always will. With that said, I like the style of these. I may use this for a table deep in our back yard under the trees. Just a bit shorter. lol Cool looking and the color will stand out. Of course I wouldn’t want to guess what color my wife would pick.
Fine Work Buster.

L2L- Thanks Lee. You got dibbs on the blue one if she decides she doesn’t like it. She is in Florida this week so I won’t know if she does until this weekend.

Monte- thank you sir.

Todd- thank you cedar king.

Jeff- thank you buddy. I think in you case, it is quality over quantity. Can’t rush perfection and all that…lol the edge banding sucked. It was way to brittle. It was some pine I trimmed off a 2×4 a while back and it was too dry. Needed to be soaked for a bit or something….

Dave- thank you buddy. Having seen you work, know yours would be much nicer. And, having painted a lot with bright yellow and purple lately, whatever color you wife chooses can’t be that bad…lol

Joe- I really like the taste of shoe leather, that’s why I put my foot in my mouth on that one…lol
Thankfully the answer on the Gainesville part is a resounding….NO….lol. Ormand Beach or some such but way too close for comfort….
