Bodger's Shavehorse

I finally got tired of using my workbench tail vise for shaving spindles and handles and decided to make a shavehorse.

Having looked at a couple different designs, I decided to go with a traditional bodger’s-style shavehorse. This was based partly on material availability, partly on my planned projects, and partly on build ease. I managed to knock this together using (mostly) hand tools in about six hours. Wood is pine, and the swinging arm pivots on solid 1/2” steel rod. The rods have fender washers and are held in place by hitch pins for ease of removal.

There are still some tweaks I want to make to the design and undoubtedly I will find more that I want to make as I use it more. I didn’t have any plans to work off of and kind of made it up as I went.

Thanks for looking.

That looks like it will do well, nice work on the fly there.

These can be very handy. Nice work.
