Once the two chairs were set into the sunroom, it was clearly made evident by the growing pile of magazines, books, and slightly used coffee cups on the floor by MY chair, that some kind of side table was needed. So I made this piece to accomodate all my stuff. The bottom cabinet is a bookcase and closed cabinet (closed to hide stuff that will not fit in a book shelf) The top bookcase was made separately and sets on the bottom with dowels in the legs. This top piece also serves as a room divider since the open plan in the house places the sunroom in front of the living room with no separating wall. For this reason the back is finished as panels.
Most of the piece is red oak, but the tops are breadboarded white oak. The front panels are pecan from Amy’s Isabel tree.
It is noted that even with all this storage, some things are best left on top for easy access (and to annoy any neat freaks who happen to be living in the house). To complete this “room”, I anticipate making two floor lamps.
