I just finished this pendant for my wife. It is made out of Gabon Ebony and Legal Pre-Ban Elephant ivory. The butterfly is my first scrimshaw try!! Thanks for looking. Alexander
Wow, that looks just superb! How did you get the outside rosette so darn even? I assume you carved it by hand. Your wife should be extremely pleased with and proud of your work. Great looking scrim too.
Jim, if you have asked about if the use of elephant ivory is illegal, I would be more than pleased to answer… but you made a statement (an incorrect one) .... since there is no question, so I have no intention to answer… My advise: please, do some internet research before making accusations about issues you do not know for sure…or simply ASK!!!!
Looks very nice but the use of elephant ivory is illegal.
Jim
Northwest, first I did turn the piece in a lathe… like turning a rosette… and then I hand carved the piece. Thanks for your comment.

That is very pretty! Does it weigh a lot? It looks like it might be heavy. I'd like to know where you sourced the ivory, though I think it might be too expensive for me.
