When we moved in, 30 some years ago, I told my wife that the windows really needed window sills. I finally did them. The whole thing about sills, sash windows prior to the ‘60s were designed to have them. The windows today are designed to have the picture frame look – why, because installation is a lot faster and quality work is all but gone.
I will say this, window sills are a detail that makes a big difference in how the space looks.
I did the job (4 windows) over 2 weekends – Saturday mornings. This left time to paint. I use an oil based paint (Rust-Olium) because it dries hard. My wife has a hard time with the smell, especially in the bedroom, so I made sure the smell was gone before evening. The sills are made of 7/8” poplar.
Thanks for looking.
