The whaleend shelf is my second craftsman product and the first I took while attending a workshop at a once-a-weeknight class at a local high school. That was a great way to get into the mindset of becoming a craftsman/woodworker. The top technique I learned was hand-cut dovetails. In much of the projects I make today, I use a router but it is a nice ‘old world’ skill to know.

It has been so long ago (20+ years) I can’t be sure right now just what wood I used. My best feeling on it is that it is teak.

Thanks, Debbie… and you’ll notice that those treasures are all Golden Retriever momentos… what a surprise, eh?

Good job LJ. Were those dovetails hand cut?

Bill,
Those most certainly were. I had an excellent mentor.
