I love working with Padauk. It is a hard wood that is reasonably forgiving and the color, wow!

I got this basic design from a book but tweaked it here and there for the fun of it. I ran a layer of Canarywood through the laminated block to break up the super bright orange of the Padauk. The drawers don’t have pulls. If you look at picture 4 you can see that there is an open groove running down the side. You simply slide your finger in at the back and pull the drawer out with your finger.

A rubdown with natural stain and then 3 coats of poly topped it off. The drawers are lined in wine colored flock.

Of this series of four you’ve just posted ~ this is my favourite, not necessarily because of it’s appearance which is great, but for your craftsmanship with this work.

There are a number of attractive design variations you could apply to this design.

Well done, keep on having fun!

Well done! Paduak and Canary wood are my two favorite woods. I just love how a little tung oil with some shellac just makes the colors POP. I always use paduak as an accent color or inlay, because I’ve always thought a full box out of Padauk would be too red. (I’ve had the same reservations about purple heart) But, I think you’ve proved me wrong! I think my next project will include a nice chunk of Padauk.

Thanks for posting. Great choice of woods…
