I needed a small drum sander, so I decided to make one. (Super cheap) :)

Start off with a block of wood from the scrap bin and a hole saw

Cut out the drum with the hole saw

Get some hardware

Screw it all together

Use some contact adhesive and a piece of sandpaper

And that is all that there is to it

A man after my own heart! These are cheap and cheerful but just as effective as commercial varieties. I made several of these many years ago using two layers of 1/2” plywood. I’ve just looked out a 3”, a 3.5” and a 4”. Sorry, but I don’t know how to upload photos from my HTC smartphone!
I used M8×65mm stainless machine screws which happened to be ‘available’ (!) at the time. I seem to remember tapping the M8 thread into the discs, countersinking the heads flush and adding a single washer and nut. The loading in use automatically tightens the disc onto the nut. If they DO happen to come loose it’s a matter of a moment with the spanner to re-tighten them.

Thanks for feedback. I like the idea of countersinking the head. I like quick and simple solutions as the need for these usually arises in the middle of a project. A quick and simple solutions helps one to get back to projeck at hand as quick as possible.

I’ve been playing around with my HTC phone and Apple Mini and I think I might have found out how to upload photos to this site. Here’s hoping! :)
