I built these for my two daughters (4 and 2). Not an original design, I saw the idea in one of the woodworking magazines a few years back. I hadn’t tried intarsia yet, and decided to give it a shot. I altered the original slightly by increasing the depth of the boxes and produced a mirror image for one of them. I built them from scraps of hard maple, lacewood and walnut. As you can see, they were immediately filled with treasures!

Doc- those are adorable little boxes! What a great finish job you did on them. Obviously you sanded your fingerprints off in the process. What varnish did you use?
