White oak jewelry box

This was my first box. All things considered it turned out fairly well. I borrowed a box joint jig from a friend and found that worked really well. Cutting the hinge mortises turned out to be a lot more difficult than I had envisioned. This was also my first experience using the router that I inherited from my late father-in-law. Using the 1/2” straight bit with the jig was simple, but while using the round-over bit I found out just how easy it is to scorch oak (and how difficult it is to sand the scorch marks out). I gave this as a Christmas present to my sister and wanted her to decide what (of any) finish that it was going to have; so these photos show the box with no finish.

For your first box – it turned out really well – mine – well – its holding parts for my saws. I know oak is easy to burn as well as maple. Hard wood but looks really good finished. You did good!

Nice box. The joinery came out cool.
The inside compartments are a nice touch too.
I bet your sister loves it.
