Hello fellow woodworkers,
I completed this coffee table and it was very fun.
The primary wood is curly maple. I’d like to give a shout out to amazon exotic hardwood located here in sunny Orlando for their high quality domestic and exotic hardwoods (http://www.amazonexotichardwoods.com/).
I have always wanted to make a table with the feet curving inward (I usually make them flair outward) and I really like the result. I took to opportunity to introduce an arc in the table top, some curves on the side aprons.
The drawer has a false front, that doubles as the front apron. I didn’t want any protruding handle so I drilled 2 offset holes in the drawer front and laminated a piece of contrasting wood (bloodwood) on the poplar drawer.
The finish is shellac (3 coats) and 5 coats of oil based varnish, sanded all the way to 1500 grid.
Thanks for watching and on to the next project !
