My latest Project (Twins) with a little help from my wife.

Project by Sleff posted 213 days ago 753 views 1 time favorited 52 comments Add to Favorites Watch

So for the last 8 months or so I’ve been a little too busy with my latest project to work on anything else in the shop…

These latest twins were built with 20 finger-joints, 20 toe-nails, 17.5 inches and 18.25 inches of material and were around a light 12 lbs total.

Looks like I finished them a little too early as one is still in the shop. But I’m sure I’ll have her finished and with her twin soon.

Their normal color is similar to cherry… maybe dark maple… but when angered they turn a deep mahogany, perhaps even purpleheart! Figure and grain of the material were decided upon months ago.

I hope now that these projects are (almost) finished I can get back to my other projects sitting idle in the shop. (My friends and fellow woodworkers say “no”) Ah well.

Well done, well constructed… you’re wife should be pleased with the result! ??? Nicely written, too. Congratulations… but if you even think this project is done… think again… your’re still working raw materials… a lot of honing and the finish work will take years… Yes, as the others have said—one of the more memorable and enjoyable projects on LJ’s.

Sleff this is about as nice a project as I have ever seen. They both are gorgeous. Enjoy them while you can because in a short time they tend to morph into teenagers and then your work will really begin. :)

Congratulations to you and your wife. I just hope that you can manage to find some occasional spare time to generate some sawdust but, with these two “projects” we won’t hold it against you if your woodworking projects are on hold for awhile.

Congrats Sleff.
As has been stated here already, kids are a very expensive hobby.

These projects are going to take at least another 18-25 years to complete, and then they are probably going to need extensive maintenance for another 10 or so years before they are fully able to self-maintain.

Good luck and I hope you have patience.

My shop is full of second hand gear and since it looks like you won’t be in your shop for a while, please let me know if you would like to get rid of anything.

Also, I would suggest adding a silencing jig. I found plans for one a while back. It works great. Willing to trade if you want.

Congratulations, A Pro couldn’t have done better. I can see cradles, doll beds, vanity dressers, Tea tables, etc… in your future. Dust off the other gear and get ready. Oh yea, in about 15 years your going to need a “boy” filter on your dust collector.

Yeah! I have twin 8 year old daughters. You are never really ‘finished’ with these projects. They are a work in progress, at best. Don’t get me wrong, there is a whole lot of satisfaction in an undertaking like this. Now, if you can get at least one of them to become your ‘shop buddy’ then you would be set. Fisher Price tool sets are recommended by age 2 or 3. Move up from there. I’m still trying!

Wait until they discover ‘teamwork’ and ‘art of distraction’. One gets your attention with a ‘lesser crime’ while the other is executing the ‘big caper’, elsewhere!

Congratulations, twins are a blessing. You are gonna have a lot of fun!

Wow thanks for the fond wishes everyone!

Matt- that “art of distraction” thing has got me scared now lol! Im already practicing my “oh no you dont” dad face!
mark76wa- Im already drawing up the silencing jig hehe!
Everyone- I understand the “never ending project” but I was hoping I would be old enough when I had them to get the staunch dad thing down… I see already its not going to work!
mark76wa- I’m not a sports kinda guy, just pick out hats that I like and fit well hehe. I’ll pick out a NY hat next time??

Thanks again everyone!

That picture looks like mine twenty years ago. We had a boy and girl. They learned to tag team us. After one had their fit and was okay, the next one needed their time for attention. LOL, many sleepless nights. Wouldn’t change a thing, well, maybe a couple. Congratulations and best wishes.
