Lap Top for a Lap Top

My wife likes to use her lap top computer while she’s in her recliner. But, quite often she keeps readjusting the computer on her legs because it gets uncomfortable after a few minutes. So, I thought I would make her this collapsible lap top desk for her lap top. It’s made of 3/4” Birch Plywood with 1/4” pine banding around the edges. the overall dimensions are 18” x 12” x 8” high. I designed a 1” drop from back to front and put a “lip” on the front edge to keep the computer from sliding off. When I put it together, the side legs would wobble a little so I installed a collapsible support for the legs for security. It seems to work well and the support folds out of the way when you fold in the legs. So far she seems to like it. I brought it in from the shop unfinished so she could try it out and now I can’t get it back to finish it. I guess that means she’s happy with it.

That’s a great idea Don and you made it look nice. Don’t be surprised when she uses it as a snack tray. I would.

It’s a very nice and practical project.

Stellar job on the lap top desk, Don…Those are quite handy for the “lap toppers”....I built my wife one some years ago, and she’s about wore it out….I’ve had to re-finish it once….I made hers out of 1/2” oak to lighten it up…..Then she bought my mother-in-law a lap top, so I built her one, also…You did a bang-up job on the one for your wife….I know from what my wife said, that they get pretty warm to hot sometimes….So she’ll like that aspect of it…...
Congrats on making the Top 3….

WOW! I’m flabbergasted! I submitted this project just to give some ideas to the group. I really didn’t think it would make top 3. Thanks everyone. It was a simple day long project. I like making things for my wife because she appreciates them. Again, Thanks.
