O.K. So it isn’t wood. It came from a tree or a plant or a vine… Still a work of art. And carved makes you use wood working tools. Some of you people make me sick. It takes all I can do to come up with something kinda nice only to feel like a kindergardner with a hatchet. I am inspired by all of your projects to try harder and make nicer sweeping designs.

Roger, have you heard of the Lancelot, or Knight it has a couple other names. Basically what it is is a mini chain saw, It fits on a 4.5 inch grinder. I use it to trim up wood before I put it on the lathe, but for a sculpture it would be invaluable. Woodcraft magazine has them, as others. I’ve used it also to do a little sculpting of my own. You can chew up a lot of small wood or big wood for that matter. It works on plastic or epoxy. Mike W

That’s not a bad sick, it’s a sad sick. After building homes for 30 years my furniture building skills are still in the “beginner” stages and I can’t even begin to compare my best work to most of the projects posted here on Lumberjocks. I can’t even carve a pumkin, let alone turn one into a work of art.

Jockmike, Yes I have heard of that tool I have something similar that works on a die grinder called Percival tool I think. But I never liked it due to the angle the tool had to be to cut well but maybe the ones for the angle grinders are better. How many rows of chain does the one you use have?

Obi, I fully understood what type of sick you were refering to, I had a good laugh when I read your post due to I have felt the same way before. Some artists are so good that it makes you want to throw your tools in the trash. When you have the eye for beauty but your skills arn’t quite there yet it’s frustrating. I deal with it daily seeing all the beautiful in So Cal and my looks aren’t there to get them and my wallet doesn’t cut it either, and I’ve yet to see any groupies for woodcarvers (wish I could sing).

Roger, you definately set the bar for pumpkin carving (and any carving…) I am very impressed with the work you put up on the site… Keep posting… like to see what else you can do…
