This is really my bread and butter type project. This particular door is 2 1/4” thick x 48” wide x 102” tall. I happen upon the wood mostly from older homes that are being torn down. Preferably i find old growth beams with lots of rings per inch. I use a metal detector to de-nail the material then mill it.

Wow…very nice Miles. You need to blog one of these. I’d love to see the process.

Beautiful door and frame. Salvage is my middle name. What kind of tools do you use to mill your beams?

Thanks for the compliments. I’ll have to try the blog suggestion on my next one.
Ron, as far as cleaning the material i use crowbars, flat bars, hammers, nail pullers with a slide handle, chisels, my teeth..lol. Its a very dirty and sweaty job to say the least. I try to stick with beams no bigger than 8×8 so i can handle them. My Felder sawblade goes up to 4 1/4” high so i can pretty much resaw any material around 8” with it. I’d love to have a Woodmizer like yours on occassion!

Beautiful door! I would love to see more picture on how you put all of it together. What are you going to finish it with?

WOW! Miles, I agree with Bob – you need to blog one of your doors so we can all see how it is done. Excellent!

Absolutley gourgeous! And the fact that it’s reclaimed old groth makes it an even more valuable and special piece. Love your design and I am jealous of your execution! Fantastic!
