This Still-Attached-To-Its-Mother Vessel is turned from, of all things, Kumquat Wood. That’s right – fruitwoods are God’s special gift to Woodturners, I guess. Fruits and Nuts (Walnut, Pecan, Oak, etc. Mebees Artists are just naturally drawn to Fruits and Nuts. I’m just saying. This is my first piece from this wood. There will be more. 4”T; 3-1/4Dia Base.

Sandro Botticelli was a 15th century Italian painter. His painting “Birth of Venus” was the inspiration for the name of my series “Vessels Emerging.

Interestingly, this emerging vessel of yours is about all I found when I went looking for examples of kumquat. This and some homemade tobacco pipe. I do see the resemblance to honey locust. Nice turning by the way.
