Just finished a coffee tabletop for a client. This burl was from a very old redwood tree that was dropped on the clients property. It’s been in a woodshed for 30 years, until I was asked to refinish it.
So, after hours of enjoying the Handplane workout routine and more hours of sanding by hand, I was finally able to achieve a flat smooth finish.
The topcoat is 7-8 coats of Arm-a-Seal, (more sanding), polishing up to a #4000 grit and a few coats of wax, with more polishing….. Just for the fun of it.
The client loved it….and I wish it was mine to keep

What a wonderful job you did with that spectacular wood

Nice! I am reading a book about redwood exploration and it’s fascinating.
