When my niece was born, I wanted to give her something memorable and unique.
I decided a “family shield” would be fitting, so I glued up three thin pieces of pine together, sanded the whole thing down and shaped it into a rough shield shape using my jigsaw.
Once that was done and sanded, I penciled in a few shapes, her name, her birthdate and then went to town hand drawing lions and other shapes. Her middle name is Rose, so I drew some of those near the bottom as well.
None of this was traced, but done by hand. I then used my woodburner to burn all the hand-drawn lines and this was the result. It’s far from perfect, but definitely something unique and pretty cool to hang on her wall. I keep telling her she’s “northern royalty” because of it, hence why we always call her princess, haha.
Anyway, let me know what you think!
(Sidenote: this was one of my very first attempts with my woodburner, so it’s definitely a rough demonstration of my skills with it. I hope to get better tips and maybe a higher-heat device to improve my abilities with it. I like doing it, it’s just very time consuming! The nice part is, once it’s etched, it’s permanent, even after sanding).
Thanks for looking!
