After seeing so many awesome boxes on LJ, I decided it was time to make one….well, three actually. This and my next two posts will show them all…that I made at the same time. This one is spalted maple with walnut keys on the corners and lined with cherry on the inside. The false bottom (see the ribbon?) is covered with felt. It is 3.5×7 x 11, is sanded to 400 and finished with 2 coats of mineral oil / beeswax in a 4:1 ratio…my new favorite. I learned a lot but clearly need to get better. Thanks to all who post such great boxes so that I may be inspired and learn.

That’s a fine looking box and the construction of it looks solid. The miter key’s turned out nicely and love the contrasting woods. Will keep an eye out for the remaining two !

Great piece of spalting. This is really well done.

Nice progression,

I’m not even started on these. LOL! Looks like a liner? Might elaborate in your postings to tell a story about your journey. adds interest.
As Al the Boxguy says “Keep Boxing!” Check out Greg the Box Sculpture. Klaus Kiefer, and Andy who I believe has some pretty spectacular boxes. he is not posting much anymore. Good luck!
