My wife asked me to build a keepsake box for my nieces baptism. The only request she had was to put a cross on the lid. I decided to use this as a chance try my hand at inlaying. I cut the cross from walnut then traced an outline on the lid. I couldn’t come up with a way to use my router so I just chiseled the recess out. It worked ok but I did have some edges that chipped out. The rest of the box is made from cherry I resawed down to 3/8. The keys in the miters are made from sycamore. I ran into a few problems with the finish as I tried to sand it down smooth. It ended up clouding up the finish and leaving white streaks. After adding a few more coats it cleared up. Thanks for looking.
