My wife wanted a reading nook for our daughters in the bonus room over the garage. She had seen something on Pinterest and I told her that I thought a built-in unit would be better since the window was the exact size of a twin mattress. So, I made a sofa bed and a set of bookcases with cabinets underneath. I plan to put four raised panel doors and a face frame on the cabinets in the near future once the kids’ toys get smaller, but they wouldn’t really fit if I did the doors right now. Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures. The bookcases have some fluted molding on the sides and the base for the sofa bed is framed out with 1×4’s to give it the look of raised shaker panels on the front and sides. The construction is all 3/4 plywood with solid face frames and it is painted a gloss white to match the rest of the trim in the room and house. Thanks for looking.

Nice! Do you have a way to access the storage space under the mattress?

Have your say...
