This little hollow form is 3 1/2” in diameter and 3 3/4” high. The opening is 1 1/8”, the finish is 5 coats of gloss poly.

Not sure what the wood is … a friend found it alongside the road someplace in Georgia.

Sure looks good to me. When I mark my pieces of wood as to varieties, I use “FOG” for this type.
“FOG” = Found On Ground
Usually sounds better than “I picked it up” . . . just a suggestion. ;)
If only all FOG wood looked as good as your piece.

My wife saw you work and made me stop to look. Glad we did. Beautiful. And the acquisition of the wood by a friend just makes the story all that much more interesting.

Nice work.

Nice little turning! I’d like to get some time for this type of work. Probably 10 years from now, at the rate I’m going with all my other projects. That “FOG” reminds me of the times we went camping with another family, and the wife was always picking up rocks she liked and showing them to her husband. He kept telling her it was leverite- “leave ‘er right there”. She was always bringing a box of rocks home from camping trips; they had them all over the place.
