This was originally a changing table that I built in 2003. It was built for my step-sister. I built it to match a crib system that was a white finish on an open grain wood like oak. I matched the white and use red oak to built it. She was doing some changing around and no longer had a use for it so I took it and change it up a little. When I built it I made it to where it could be used with our without the changing table top so it could be used and a chest later on. She already changed the color to red so what I did was to spray it with a black undercoater and then a black lacquer. I came back and used some rubbing techniques to distress the piece.
Here was the matching bookcase.
