I feel kind of bad for posting a project that I didn’t create, but I just found this homemade dust collector on ebay in a neighboring town. Since I was about to drop a pile of cash on a new DC, I figured it was worth a shot to try this. (Paid $250). Its only a 1 HP motor, but seems to get quite a bit of suction. I wish the chip separator were a cyclone, but the square box style seems to be well built. The entire structure is sealed with furnace sealant to be air tight. I tested it by really having to pull hard to open the door to the trash can when its running. I think eventually, I’ll get rid of the box tower and replace it with a metal cyclone, but for now I’m going to give this a try. The filter bags seem really old and full. I tried shaking them out, but they were just too dusty. Does anyone know a good place I can get filter bags? They are held on a 12” metal flange with a hose clamp and my initial search on the internet didn’t yield any slam dunks. If there are any suggestions to improving this design, please let me know. Thanks

It looks like it works.
Does it also wave it’s arms and shout “DANGER! DANGER! DANGER, Will Robinson!”

Check http://www.grizzly.com/home.aspx for filters. You might be able to replace the bags with canisters, but that could be big $.
