Urn

Project by shopguryl posted 224 days ago 433 views 1 time favorited 12 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I built this urn for my Father in Law. It’s made out of Paduke and Zebra wood.
The small inlay is store bought stuff, (maple and ebony )
I had the brass plaque made and recessed it in flush.
The finish is sprayed on shellac.
This box was finished with John sealed inside, it doesn’t open.
I’ve thought about adding feet, but I’m not sure as to what type or material to use, any suggestions would be great.
Please feel free to critique.

Wow! What a colorful box. Quite striking! If I had the equipment I would like to build a box for my daughter when she turns 13 this fall… sort of a ‘centering’ piece for her, filled with the important things in life. As for feet, to me an ebony wrap base would set this waaay off. Very nice work!!!

Nicely done! You could make feet with the Paduke, or maybe some smaller Ebony pieces would look nice.

Thank You,
What do you think about some small brass feet, kind of like round balls???

Beautiful box, I go with ebony with vertical stripes of paduke sandwiched in. I think one solid color of feet would not stand out as the box does, but that combo would be a striking feature. You’ve done a wonderful job so far.

It is sad that it is an urn but the urn is beautiful craftsmanship. You did very well.

great piece. small brass or bronze ball feet wood look cool. So would zebra wood, maybe with a border of the inlay around the feet.

how about a stop and start cut on a router table with a cove bit to create the illusion of feet

How about a small foot, invisible, giving the illusion of floating with the angles?

I think it is beautiful as it is. Sometimes things are better left alone. Just my opinion.
