Hey, Greg, nice job as always. I know how it is to have a conversation with your wood pile…don’t let too many people know about it or they will haul you away in a straight jacket. How about an indented finger lift? It is just one more sculptured element.

I now know that I am not the only one that wood talks to. If we listen, it lets us know what it wants to be.
Very nice project. Hope the you enjoy it.

I really appreciate the movement through the edges of the piece. Nice job on listening to the wood!

Love the grain and the burl just adds another bit of eye candy .

Big Al…I’ve been hauled away in a straight jacket so many times that the Looney Farm got one printed with my name, web address and photo on it.!
I thought about a finger lift but I decided that since practically all of my boxes have some form of lift I wanted to make a few without any finger lift whatsoever. It opens real easy without it and I sorta like the undisturbed look of the flow lines. It works better on a small box but I don’t know how effective it would be on a larger one.

Thanks everyone…!
Talking to wood is like being married…you gotta listen to get the best out of it…

I really like the way the burl looks with the Jatoba. I definitely need to get more burl. It is not available anywhere that I get my lumber.
What sources do you use to get your burl…?

Agree – - -except you get to contribute to the conversation with the wood pile :-) You just need to get your wife to talk to your wood.
