This is a 12 inch Aspen Vase with a sculpted foot. Lots of aspen out here and great to work with. The foot is undercut 2 inches and then indexed on the lathe. A drum sander is built for the lathe and the sculpted feet are cut out. It is an end grain vase and the rim of a secondary wood in this case brazilian cherry is inserted. This insures there will be no wood movement. A good practice to get in on end grain hollows.

Dale I really like how you go above the norm on all your projects . The base really blends in well with the overall shape.
You should write a book? I would definitely buy it !

Amazing, just amazing I am speechless with all your turnings. It just makes me obsess on getting mine fixed. I have an old Delta 46 – 765X a great lathe except the inverter keeps going bad. I’ve had to use a transplant and it just does’nt work like the old one, which I could’nt find in America or Canada. They haven’t made the part in 10 yrs. So the part must have gone out alot. No wonder they don’t have any.
