I just got off the phone with Ryobi service, There is very little of that.
Warning ! If you have any Ryobi product and the box states a warranty – If you do not have a serial number ( my unit did not ) There is no warranty unless you have your store receipt !! The warranty on the box does not state that you need to keep your receipt or have a serial number to have a valid warranty, only after you open it and read the manual you find this out .. My local Home depot will take care of this. This is a bad policy.

Well, how did the manufacturer think you got it? Fell off a truck? I suppose, though, in the day and age where the difference between right and wrong is what you think you can get away with, people are always trying some scam that hurts the masses of relatively honest people. You should have told them you were a Lumberjock!

How does a unit not have a serial number? Not a smart move to not provide good service. On the flip side of that… http://lumberjocks.com/topics/484

I’ve already learned that when I buy anything I stay as far away from Menards, Home De-Pot, and any other big boxes. They can’t seem to pay well enough to attract people with any product knowledge, and I have found that at least in my area service is something that is absent. Guess I’ll just stick with the local hardware and small local lumber yards.

I have purchased and immediatley retuned a couple Ryobi products. I’m happy (moderately) with my mitersaw. but hated their biscuit joiner, had that one returned within the hour! Ditto with a sander. Not terribly impressed with the tools enough to give them another chance anyway.

I too have had my “experience” with Ryrobu products. For the most part they are made for the very occasional user and should be sold exclusively at Harbor Freight, not a tool for the serious woodworker. I guess it brings to mind that old saying – “you get what you pay for”.
