This is how it always starts….. Project from 2003, Wanted to make a router table for a while. After I bought the fence, you really need a router lift, a variable speed 3 HP router is important since you have a stable work surface now and you don’t want to have to keep changing out the router during a project. Since you have those, you should really should enclose the cabinet and have a hook up for dust collection, with an external on/off switch and oh yeah, some drawers to store bits and tools – those should probably have full extension slides for full access. The cabinet is pretty heavy, so I should really put some wheels on it so it can be moved around. I might as well put some plexiglass on the door for the router so I can see what’s going on in there. Without much effort, you realize that you have made a substantial investment and it is a short step to convince yourself that you might as well make the cabinet out of cherry – you probably wont be able to afford to go on vacation this year anyway….. I am always thankful for an understanding wife who puts up with my wood working/tool collection hobby (habit?). By the way, the cabinet works well – really keeps vibration and noise down. Cabinet is Cherry ply, with solid wood trim. Drawers are Birch ply. Laminate for the top with cherry trim pieces.
