This guitar is my first fixed bridge instrument and my first bolt on neck. The bolt on neck was an eleventh hour decision, it was going to be an ordinary dovetail. I’m thinking of future adjustments. I’ll continue dovetailing archtops and mandolins. The guitar was built from 000 plans that have been altered slightly. I want to use the same mold to build a 15in archtop.

top …...redwood

back, sides and binding … southern sily oak

neck ….. mahognay and silver ash

finger board, head veneer, bridge ….. solomon blackwood

binding on body …. qld. walnut

backstrap….png rosewood

That’s a lot more than just a curved box with a handle Bill.
Instrument makers amaze me because it’s not just about how they look, so much goes into how they sound.
My supplier calls that Solomon Blackwood “Tubi”. I use it quite a bit. Have you heard that name or the other one, Queen Ebony?

Thanks for looking and commenting fellas.

” curved box with a handle ” is something a violin luthier once said.

Paul, I’ve never heard Tubi, Queens Ebony is more common here but Solomon Blackwood sounds more romantic to me. LOL

I agree that Tubi sounds pretty flat but I do like Queen Ebony. Solomon Blackwood is nice too.
More to the point, the guitar is just sweet.

That’s a beauty. How about a short youtube clip so we can hear how it sounds?

Cheers fellas,

Babieca, no youtube, but I will do a sound file.

I just fitted a Seymour Duncan ” Acoustic Tube ” soundhole pickup. This magnetic pickup is designed for phosphor bronze strings and an acoustic amp. A preamp also helps. I’m happy and very surprised with the sound. The pickup can be shifted to another guitar very quickly. The downside is a messy wire and the jack is just swinging in the breeze. I’m going to try a self stick rubber clip to hold the jack. Duncan also makes the ” Woody ”, a more permanent installation with an endpin jack.

Piezo systems have come a long way and I have used them exclusively in the past. Some of my favorite artists, Lyle Lovett, Justin Townes Earl and Pokey LaFarge ( when he plays a flat top ) use soundhole pickups , I thought they had be worth a try.

That’s a beautiful guitar and probably sounds beautiful too. I would love to get the courage to tackle a guitar.
