Greetings & Salutations,
We live in a rual area of Arkansas in a Double Wide Trailer that I have been overhauling ever since we bought it 6 yrs ago. Even though it does have some nice living areas the bedrooms are rather small compared to a conventional house.
To help with the storage problem and space situations I took on to build a raised platform bed. We already had a very nice headboard assemble that included a very large mirror and two side cabinets with doors opening up on a three shelf space and 3 drawers and a pull out side tray all in a dark mahogany finish.
I built the platform bed to have 6 large drawers on each side each drawer is 24” x 25” and a full 6” deep. I also made the footboard to match and stained everything in mahogany and then applied 3 coats of polyurethane.
I had to make the bed in 2 sections and join them after getting them inside the room.
We were able to eliminate a large chest of drawers and a dresser that was in the room and left only a very small path to move around in and made it impossible to move if anyone had a drawer open.
In addition a removed the sheet rock on the wall in the room that was where the 2 halves of the trailer were mated and build in between each of the studs a shelf compartment as well as a place to put a flat screen TV and then install doors over each section. So now I don’t have to trip over the 150 pairs of shoes that always seem to be around. LOL.
-- Gene Miller - it only took me 3 days 9 hours and 28 minutes to get that top flat!

Use of space under the bed is great, and I love the mahogany finish. I want that wall storage unit!
