I finally got a room of my own. Both kids have moved out. I am turning this room into a Library – Map Room – Chart Room. I collect National Geographic maps and antique books on carpentry, woodworking, and furniture.
The table was made out of mahogany. This is my first project with turned legs. The compass rose was made from 1/2” thick stock glued to 3/4” birch plywood. The hardest part was getting the 22.5 degree angles to line up.
The drawers were made with the miter lock router bit.

Joseph, this is a well designed piece that has nice proportions. And the inlay creates a lot of visual interest. This is a piece of fine furniture that would be the focal point to any room’s decor. This is a really nice piece of furniture.
Those are some good looking frames in the background as well.
Thanks for the post.

Very nice. I can’t image the day when both of my kids someday leave here for now, but when they do, I need to make one of these for myself, too.

Impressive piece of furniture! Nice rose and I like the ‘dots’. What is the circle on the front between the two knobs?

Extremely fine piece of woodworking. As Scott said, a fitting center of attention for any room.

I don’t see this type of furniture made much anymore. I love it. The inlay came out very nicely. Enjoy your library.

Very Very Nice. Beautiful piece of furniture. What finish did you use? I am currently making a mahogany hall table and haven’t decided on the finish yet. Yours looks beautiful.
